Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - Sukhothai Village Khaimuk Saksit

This is the Khaimuk Saksit village, fictional fishing hamlet in the depths of Thailand. It’s one of the first areas in Sukhothai open world map, a sort of hub area if player choses to return and do some side missions and activities. For some players, they would only visit it once in their playthrough, as it’s not required to revisit to complete the game.

It was both a very fun and very complex area to work with, as the setting was very interesting and appealing, but challenges were numerous too. Navigation, optimization, storytelling, scope, were all the challenges that needed to be sorted out in a pretty narrow timeframe. Open nature of the space and architecture sometimes lead into optimization problems and we were trying to solve them without affecting overall look too much.

Inka Sipola created the initial art blockout that was the foundation for this area and many of her decisions guided the look and layout of the village. Later on we iterated and refined it together with LDs, Simon Kåks and Hanna Hoffman.

I was responsible for creating majority of the architecture, including most hut modules and textures. Since this was an area that’s inhabited by numerous NPCs and quest givers, many adjustments to the layout, spacing, composition were made through the weeks.

Through its development, many people pitched in, too many to name, but this areas sure was a group effort :D
